Planting Hen and Chicks

Plant your hen and chick plants in a well lit area such as near a window or in the garden in full sun to light shade. Use a sandy soil mixture for best results. Add coarse sand or small gravel to heavy or otherwise poor soils for good drainage. Water after planting.

Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Since the Hen and Chicks are succulents, they are drought tolerant once rooted in. Over watering or retaining water (in the conainer or ground) can lead to root rot or other issues. Water less or move the plants to another location.

There is no need to apply fertilize to Hen and chicks.

New chicks can be gently removed and planted in new locations to begin more plants.
