NEW! Nishiki Willow - Salix integra 'Hakuro Nishiki' – You’re not going to believe what this shrub will do for you.
The Nishiki Willow is spectacular in all seasons. The show begins in spring with yellow catkins in April (small picture) – followed by new growth foliage appearing green and creamy white with pink overtones (large picture) – that turns salmon pink by summer (small picture)– going into fall with leaves turning yellow and winter branches turning a brilliant red. That’s not all! It is a fast grower, planted as a hedge, screen, windbreak, or to line a road or drive, you can expect this shrub to be over 15' tall and 15' wide in just three to four years.
Easy to plant, easy to grow. The Nishiki willow, if pruned can be maintained with a great shape at 6 to 10 foot. Prune in late winter. It thrives under canopy trees both evergreen and deciduous. Its traditional use is beside streams and water features in Asian gardens where, like most willows, it is tolerant of perennial damp and seepage, but is also somewhat drought tolerant. I first learned of this electric beacon of a show-stopping shrub for the garden from our grower of the tree-formed varieties of Althea and Forsythia. This grower is always coming to us with new items to offer and this one is sure to be a winner among our Greenwood family. The Nishiki willow can be planted as a specimen plant, however they are especially elegant lining a walk or flanking an entryway or used in groupings planted 6 foot apart.
