Hydrangea shrubs are flowering shrubs that grow and bloom the best in morning sun with afternoon shade. Don't expect hydrangea plants to do well planted in heavy shade as they do need partially sunny areas to light shade. The Pee Gee Hydrangea variety is one of the few hydrangea bushes hardy enough to grow in full sun.

Hydrangea macrophylla such as the Nikko Blue, Mars and Paris are also known as Mophead Hydrangeas or French Hydrangeas.

A white flowering hydrangea will not change bloom color. However, the soil pH will cause some hydrangea shrubs to bloom pink or can be altered to change the bloom color to blue.
