The pyramidal arborvitae is an evergreen tree with bright green foliage. Most pyramidal arborvitae can reach a height of fifteen to twenty-five feet and have a spread of about three to five feet. They make an excellent screen, and can grow at a rate of about one foot per year. When young, the pyramidal arborvitae has a bright green color to its foliage, which darkens as the plant ages.

A 2 ft potted tree can be over 6 ft tall in 5 years in good soil, adequate moisture, and total weed and grass control. Spacing is very important for this species due to its shallow root system. Single row--5 ft apart, double row-5ft between trees and 10 ft between rows, multiple rows 6 ft between trees and 12 ft between rows.

This evergreen species grows best in fertile, well-drained but moist soil, in full sun to light shade. Arborvitae will grow well in both an acidic or alkaline soil. Pruning is seldom required due to the dense growth habit. The moderate growth rate provides an attractive accent tree for your landscaping plans.

  • Fall planting on the green giants for zones 5-6, no later than mid October.
  • Zone 7, No later then October 30th. Zones 8-9 all winter.

The pyramidal arborvitae will arrive healthy and ready for planting. Once planted with moderate care, just watering every five days or so and not fertilizing for the first year, the plants generally do well. They are a low maintenance, easy to grow, almost no care needed plant to own.
