NEW! - Black Mondo grass Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' Intriguing collector's plant; this stylish plant features black (really a dark purple) 1/4" wide leaves, with bell-shaped, pale lavender flowers in summer. New leaves emerge green, but they soon turn black.

Excellent for rock gardens and border edging, highlighting of the stunning foliage is best accomplished through contrasting with lighter colored plants, walls and pavers. Good for under planting shady woody plants, connecting larger islands and it makes nice dark pools to nestle sculpture in.

Growing only to 3-4 inch clumps with slowly spreading, creeping roots to form a matt of golden foliage. Another surprise is its sweetly fragrant foliage that burst into the air when ever it is walked on or brushed against.

Black Mondo is a grass like plant that thrives in planting zones 5 thru 9. Container Plant Style Thriller - Used either in the back or middle of a container. Usually a taller item that adds height and drama to the container.

Growing Tips: Black Mondo Grass is a grass-like plant. Evergreen or neutral grasses are usually plants that look like grasses but aren't actually classified as grasses, they are generally called grass-like plants.

Divide evergreen or neutral grasses and grass-like plants in spring only. Evergreen grasses don't ever go dormant. Dividing plants wounds them to some degree. For evergreen grasses this wounding will really affect their ability to live through the winter.

Ships in One Quart containers.
